Still in Malaysia
Malaysia continues to be an interesting experience. Teaching is going well, and I'm starting to build a comfortable relationship with the students. It is fortunate, though, that I've been teaching outside of the uni this year, as the students behave somewhat more "informally" than I'm used to. The most interesting things to date were probably the "K-Boxes", which I eventually discovered were boxes (literally) you enter to sing karaoke, and this strange exercise thing, which consisted of a stool, a seat, and a motor. The motor moved the seat as if you were sitting on a horse. They were sold as devices to improve your lower back muscles, but my only thought was somewhat less innocent.

At any rate, now that I have a taxi driver I like things are going well. Excellent staff, good students, and an interesting culture. I'm still basically teaching or sitting in the hotel, but it is still proving to be much better than I had expected it to.

There are K-Boxen here in Adelaide. At K-Box, of all places ...

Karaoke is evil. Me no singy. Even drunk. Which is sad for impressing Asian people coz they like the K a lot.

You have a taxi driver. You really have settled in quickly :)

I couldn't figure out the point of the K-Boxes. If no one can hear you, why do karoke? You might as well just sing in the shower. And the acoustics would be better, too.

The taxi driver thing is starting to make sense. The taxi meets me in to mroning, and takes me back to the resort at night. And is less than a third of the cost of the taxi that took me from the airport. He also doesn't tend to terrify me too much when he's driving.

K-Boxes allow shy people to rock out and feel like they're in the Karaoke thing. I guess so anyway. I no go in there. Evil. Hurtses precious.

You have the Taxi-in-South-East-Asia thing figured out then :)

We weren't in Malaysia long enough to strike up that kind of deal, though we did have our own personal taxi™ for a day in Singapore. And cheaper than trying to catch any old taxi going by.
